Ceylanpınar Region Groundwater Modeling and Preparation of a Management Plan

Ceylanpınar is a district of Şanlıurfa province in southeastern Turkey on the border with Syria. The Ceylanpınar Project physically and mathematically analyzes the current status of the groundwater mass in the Ceylanpınar Region, which is an aquifer system of transboundary nature. The project aims to develop numerical models, prepare future scenarios and prepare water management plans through an analysis of aquifer parameters and pressure factors. In this context, the project determines the geological and hydrogeological characteristics of the Ceylanpınar aquifer system, investigates and defines the recharge-discharge relationship and calculates the hydrogeological parameters.

By defining the aquifer system, the Ceylanpınar Project will facilitate the efficient and effective use of the groundwater. Within the scope of the project, SUEN performed an analysis of the relevant data and maps received from State Hydraulic Works (DSI), State Meteorological Service (MGM) and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock. The hydrometeorological module of the software to be used to calculate and model the current and future water budget of the Ceylanpınar aquifer system has been prepared. Launched in 2014, the project will be completed by the end of 2016.
