Turkish Water Institute (SUEN) participated in the High-Level Preparatory Meeting for the UN 2026 Water Conference, held in Dakar, Senegal, on 26–27 January 2026. The meeting was regarded as an important milestone in shaping the strategic framework and priorities of the UN 2026 Water Conference, which will take place in December 2026.

Within the preparatory process, six interactive dialogues were organized under the themes of Water for People, Water for Prosperity, Water for Planet, Water for Cooperation, Water in Multilateral Processes, and Investments for Water. Discussions addressed key issues such as access to water and sanitation, climate resilience, transboundary waters and aquifers, data sharing, inclusive governance, and the strengthening of financing mechanisms.

During the meeting, SUEN representatives held consultations to position the 5th Istanbul International Water Forum, scheduled to take place in Istanbul on 5–6 May 2026, as a significant regional platform contributing concretely to the process leading up to the UN 2026 Water Conference.

Throughout the meeting, SUEN emphasized Türkiye’s people-centered, development-oriented, and cooperation-driven approach to water, while highlighting the importance of practical and action-oriented outcomes in the lead-up to the 2026 Conference.
