SUEN President Prof. Dr. Lütfi Akca and the project team conducted an on-site review of studies, coordinated by SUEN, under controlled conditions at Marmara University as part of the project titled “Use of Wastewater and Environmental Surveillance for Food Safety Monitoring.”
During the visit on 18 August 2026, the team received information on the experimental studies aimed at assessing the potential food safety risks associated with the use of treated wastewater for agricultural irrigation and reviewed the ongoing applications on site.
As part of the project, the current status of strawberry, lettuce, and potato cultivation studies was assessed. Based on scientific evidence, these studies are being conducted to evaluate the potential food safety risks associated with the use of treated wastewater for agricultural irrigation. The teams also exchanged views on the activities planned for the subsequent stages of the studies.
