Dr. Tuğba Evrim Maden, Policy Development Coordinator at SUEN, represented Türkiye at the Conference on Environment, Climate Change and Water Conference held in Baghdad on 18 October 2025. The event was organized by the Bahr Al-Uloom Foundation, the Iraqi Ministry of Environment, and partner institutions under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani.

Within the scope of the conference, the Al-Alamein Center for Environment, Climate Change and Water Studies was inaugurated. The meeting brought together ministers, ambassadors, scientists, and regional experts to discuss the common environmental and water-related challenges faced by the countries of the region.

In her speech, Dr. Maden emphasized that water should not be a source of conflict but rather a bridge for cooperation, and she highlighted Türkiye’s and SUEN’s efforts toward fostering regional dialogue and collaboration. The Blue Peace Middle East initiative was presented as a successful model based on regional ownership, trust, and inclusiveness. Furthermore, the Türkiye–Iraq Framework Agreement was underlined as a significant bilateral achievement developed through political will, mutual respect, and technical expertise, providing a strong foundation for joint water management in line with the principles of equitable, reasonable, and efficient use.
