As part of the Blue Peace Middle East’s initiative’s knowledge dissemination and capacity-building activities coordinated by SUEN under the theme of “Improving Water Use Efficiency in Agriculture”, a workshop and study tour program on “Digital Solutions for Water Management in Agriculture” was held in İzmir on 23–25 September 2025.
The event brought together irrigation and water management experts from Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, and Jordan. Experts presented detailed information on digital applications in irrigation management, including remote sensing, AI-supported smart irrigation systems, sensors, and drones. Participants also visited smart irrigation systems at the International Agricultural Research and Training Center (UTAEM) and private agricultural lands in Manisa for hands-on demonstrations.
On the final day, experts from participating countries shared their experiences and practices regarding irrigation management and digitalization in their own countries. The discussions focused on identifying future collaboration opportunities and potential initiatives to enhance agricultural water-use efficiency in the region by focusing in particular on the critical role of digitalization to this end.
