The Second Session of the Islamic Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water (Istanbul, March 2012) decided to adopt the OIC Water Vision document. It was also decided to appoint national focal points from member countries and to convene the next water themed meeting in Istanbul. In the context of close dialogue between SUEN and the OIC Secretariat and with the logistic support of the 14th Regional Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI), the First National Focal Points Meeting was held in Istanbul on 3-5 June 2015.

25 national focal points from OIC member states in Africa, Asia and Arab regions attended the meeting. OIC bodies, namely the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC (COMSTECH), Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the OIC Secretariat were also present at the meeting. The Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs was represented by SUEN, DSI, General Directorate of Water Management and Department of EU and Foreign Relations with a participation of over 50 persons.

The meeting was chaired by SUEN. Tunisia and Gambia were the co-chairs and Suriname was the rapporteur. The decisions taken at the Second Session of the Islamic Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water were reviewed and the actions taken so far by the OIC bodies and members for the implementation of the OIC Water Vision Document were announced. The titles on how to implement the Water Vision were developed through group studies.
